Flats for Fall

By Blonde Bowhemian - August 13, 2015

I'm really not quite sure how, and I'm somewhat in denial about it, but the end of summer is almost upon us. Just as the weather has begun its transition to cooler and darker nights, we've started our own transition from 9-to-5 internships/jobs to 8am classes (aka torture). During this awkward period where it's not quite summer, but also not quite fall, it can be challenging to find pieces that will work in the 75 degree sunshine during the day and in the chilly 50 degree nights. You can always throw a sweater on over a short sleeve top, but what about footwear? Sandals may work during the heat, but at night your toes will be practically frost-bitten (okay, maybe not that extreme but you get my point). And, boots may function at night but you'll be uncomfortably hot and swollen during the day. Enter: ballet flats. These are the perfect shoes for transitioning from warmer to cooler weather as they keep you cooler than boots but are more insulated and protective than sandals. Although I have a love-hate relationship with them because they can be absolutely killer to break in (read: endless blisters and bandaids), once you get past that part they're great for everyday wear and for travel because they're so light and easily foldable. Personally, I prefer to get my flats in neutral colors that I know will work with the majority of my clothes (yes, leopard is a neutral in my book) but maybe that's just me! I know I'm definitely going to be packing my new flats (that I picked up at a recent sample sale!) for study abroad this Fall. To get a head start on your fall wardrobe, check out a few of my favorite flats below (all for $100 or less!):

Steve Madden Elusion (on sale!) // Enzo Angiolini Caulin (on sale!) // Jessica Simpson Marieta (on sale!)
Sam Edelman Bev (on sale!) // Ivanka Trump Tadora (on sale!) // Rachel Zoe Layne (on sale!)

Happy Shopping!

Joanna
