Monday Blues (OOTD)

By Blonde Bowhemian - June 30, 2014

Going back to work on Monday is rough. Going back to work on Monday after being on vacation for two weeks and having your body think the time is 7 hours ahead? Inexplicably rough. Worth it? Yes. But still rough.

For those of you who don't know, I have an internship at Wine Enthusiast for this summer! I'm a merchandising intern, so I basically online shop for wine products and furniture in order to perform price comparisons and add new products to our database and fun things like that. Anyways, the best part for me is being able to dress up! Having gone to a high school where sweats were the norm, I'm still totally relishing this whole dressing-up thing…so much so that my boss commented to me on casual Friday, "You know you can wear pants, right?" But, seriously a) ask anyone: I hate jeans and b) it's sooo hot in the office and c) how often do I get to wear dresses and skirts?? So, yeah, I'm definitely a follower of the "it's better to be overdressed than underdressed" rule (no shame).

Anyways, to brighten up my return to work today, I wore a new (well, to me) Lilly dress that I found at the most amazing consignment store while on a lunch break a few weeks ago in Bedford Hills. The store is called The Penny Pincher Boutique, but don't let the name fool you, Christian Louboutins and Manolo Blahniks lined the shoe racks for a cool $750 each…on sale, while Hermes Birkin Bags and Chanel Quilted Crossbodies sat on shelves throughout the store still for thousands of dollars. Needless to say I was drooling. But, after combing the racks I found some great finds for great prices! They had AG Adriano Goldschmied shorts for $17 and DVF Wrap Dresses for around $100, and various other designer pieces for anywhere from $20 and up! After trying on a ton of things, I finally found my Lilly dress for $40. Needless to say I couldn't resist it for that price and I scooped it right up!

Paired with my Jack Rogers and a Lilly thermos I was definitely embracing my inner prep today, but hey, we all need some fun patterns to brighten up our Mondays!

I know some people hold stigmas against consignment shops, but I would really advise checking them out. I have found some amazing deals there and the items are always in mint condition so no need to worry about them looking worn or having rips or tears. Here are some of my favorite local consignment stores:

The Penny Pincher Boutique, Bedford Hills, NY
Second Time Around, Westport, CT
Roundabout, Greenwich, CT

Let me know if you have any other favorite stores!
